Introduction:
love is defined as:
- · an intense feeling of deep affection.
- · A great interest and pleasure in something
Text: Psalm 91:14-16
Because
he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on
high, because he hath known my name.
He
shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I
will deliver him, and honour him.
With
long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
When
we love God:
1.
He will give us All round deliverance:
2 Cor. 10:3-5 says, "For
though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons
we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have
divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every
pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take
captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
1 Pet. 5:8,9 says, "Be
self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring
lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the
faith."
Isa. 54:17 says, "No
weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and every tongue that accuses
you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the
Lord, and their vindication is from Me," declares the Lord."
2.
God Will Set You On High:
What
this means is that "God will acknowledge you as His own and treat you
accordingly.
Ephesians 2:4-7 says: But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His
great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made
us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up
together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that
in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His
kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
Psalm
27:10 "When my father and my mother
forsake me, then the Lord will take
care of me."
WHY WILL GOD SET YOU ON HIGH?
- Because you know His name. You
know Him and are intimate with Him.
- Because He is in charge of the
affairs of the universe
- Because He sovereignly chose to
save you from sin and seat you with Jesus in heavenly places.
3. When you Love God, it
moves him to ANSWER YOUR PRAYERS:
Prayers
should be the key of the day and the lock of the night.
John 9:31 says, "We know
that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does
his will."
1 Peter 3:12 says, "For the
eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their
prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
1 John 5:15 says, "And if we
know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of
him.".
Jeremiah 29:12-13 says, "Then
you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to
you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your
heart."
4.
When we love God, He
will BE WITH YOU IN TROUBLE:
Psalm
46:1 says, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in
trouble."
The
word 'trouble'
in the Hebrew means,
'to
be restricted,
to
be tied up in a narrow,
and
to be cramped in a place'.
Notice
that the promise is to be "WITH US in trouble."
There's
the story of an old infidel, who had a motto in his room that read, "GOD
IS NOWHERE." His little granddaughter came to see him, read the
motto, and said, "Look, granddaddy, it says, "GOD IS NOW HERE!"
5. When you Love God, he
will REWARD YOU:
In
1 Cor. 3:1, Paul, speaking of the faithful believer, says, "He shall
receive a reward."
The
word "reward" is translated in old Greek word that denotes
"pay,
salary,"
or
"reward."
In
other words, Christ will make sure you are "well compensated," and
"rewarded," for all your love.
Rom.
2:6 says, God “will repay each person according to what they have done."
1
Cor. 15:58 says, Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let
nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because
you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Gal.
6:9 says, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we
will
reap a harvest if we do not give up.
6. When you Love God, he
will SATISFY WITH A LONG LIFE:
Psalm
91:16
"With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation."
7. When you Love God, he
satisfy you with ETERNAL LIFE:
1
Peter 1:4 promises that we "have an inheritance incorruptible and
undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven."
As
a dear old saint lay dying, he said to his friends as they stood weeping around
his bed, "Weep not for me; I go to change my place, but not my company. I
have walked with God on earth, and He is calling me to walk with Him in
heaven."
