- Trouble is defined as anything that causes
difficulty, worry, and inconvenience, or that prevents you from doing
something.
- Anything
that causes inconvenience or discomfort.
- Any strong
feeling of anxiety
Psalm 46:1-11:
“God is our refuge and
strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though
the earth be removed and though the mountain be carried into the midst of the
sea. Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled though the mountains shake
with the swelling thereof. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make
glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most high. God
is in the midst of her, and that right early. The heathen raged, the kingdoms
were moved; he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with
us, the God of Jacob is our refuge. Come behold the works of the Lord, what
desolation he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of
the earth. He breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder, he burneth the
chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted in the
earth. The Lord of hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge.”
Is God really with us in trouble?
1.
Trouble
is tests our identity as Christians:
Tribulation tests our
identity. When we deal with tribulation as we should, it authenticates our true
identity as believers.
Ps. 34:19
"Many
are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all."
2.
Trouble
tests our faith:
1 Peter 1:7
"These [trials] have
come so that your faith of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though
refined by fire may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor
when Jesus Christ is revealed".
3.
Trouble
is a tests of our obedience:
2 Cor. 2:9
"The reason I wrote
you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything"
4.
Trouble
comes as to teach us to rely on God:
2 Cor. 1:8-11
"We do not want you to
be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of
Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that
we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death.
But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises
the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us.
On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us
by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious
favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many".
5.
Trouble
tests our sense of purpose:
James 1:2
"Blessed is the man
who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive
the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him".
6.
Trouble
comes so that it will go well with us
Deut. 8:16
"He gave you manna to
eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble and to
test you so that in the end it might go well with you"
